Many Afghan children work hard for low pay; school is just a daydream By Los Angeles Times, adapted by Newsela staff
Shukriya, 8, sells toilet paper in downtown Kabul, Afghanistan. Although child labor is illegal in the country, it is pervasive due to a lack of enforcement and the need of many families to have as many members earning income as possible. Photo: Carolyn Cole/Los Angeles Times/MCT

The cause is that people were very poor in Afinghanstan because of that many people needed to get jobs including kids. Sami's family were poor so Sami went to a bakery to get a job and earn money for his parents. Sami's uncle works at the bakery and gives Sami $80 a month for his family. Sami started about the age of 6

The cause is Afghan families are poor because they don't have jobs, and that means that they can't earn enough money to survive, like being stranded on a deserted island far from the land. This makes their oldest descendants work every day, ignorant of laws, and education-free, which applies to younger children too. They don't care if it's against the law for children to work all day. No matter how hard they work, they don't earn enough to get an education. Families don't even care about getting educations; they only think about earning enough money to live, kind of like believing in the proverb "A penny saved is a penny earned."

The cause in the article is that Sami is fustrated because many kids don't go to school. Many families need their children to work to get enough money for food. "They must focus on today, not on a future for their children." Hashemi said. Nearly two million Afghan children between the ages of 6 and 17 work.

The cause is that needy families need money too survive. The effect is that instead of parents going too work their oldest kid has too go to work and earn money too handle their families. Sami is only 12 but he has too work in the bakery that his uncle owns. Still he has too pay for his mother, father, brothers, and sisters. Not to mention some jobs kids have difficult jobs that are illigal or can even cause death.

The cause is that people were poor and the effect was that little children are raising money for their family. Same had to work at a bakery non stopping to raise a lot of work for a young boy. Also, that he wanted to go to school on the other hand he can't go to school but instead he use the $3.00 for the family that's how much he cares.

The cause is that sometimes kids work in bakeries,or begging in cars. The effect is that kids want to work in school instead of begging for money or working in bakeries. The author wrote that Sami's dad said that he don't want Sami to have his father's life stuck inside the bakeries.
